Combat Practice

 

Practices are held most Sunday afternoons (when there isn’t an event on, and weather permitting), from 1:30 pm at Kirkleatham Hall near Redcar.

 

Archery is practised in a cordoned off area with permission of the Museum, from 2:30pm with both Crossbow and Longbow at a range of target distances, under supervision.

 

Combat work is practised on the main green next to the museum, before Archery. A range of different weapons are taught appropriate to different periods, and these include;

 

Quarter-staff         Broadsword          Hand and a half sword

Hand-Axe              Dane-Axe              Spear

Dagger                   Seax                        Military Flails

Practices are open to any who wish to come along and have a go, it is recommended that you wear trousers and long sleeves, as well as footwear appropriate to field work. Please note that although always welcome, children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
